The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney
Goodreads Synopsis:
No one ever really paid close attention to the faces of the missing children on the milk cartons. But as Janie Johnson glanced at the face of the ordinary little girl with her hair in tight pigtails, wearing a dress with a narrow white collar - a three-year-old who had been kidnapped twelve years before from a shopping mall in New Jersey - she felt overcome with shock. She recognized that little girl - it was she. How could it possibly be true?
Janie can't believe that her loving parents kidnapped her, but as she begins to piece things together, nothing makes sense. Something is terribly wrong. Are Mr. and Mrs. Johnson really Janie's parents? And if not, who is Janie Johnson, and what really happened?

Review:
I absolutely loved the premise of this book. The novel I'm currently working on (but probably will never finish...) involves this same idea of living your whole life thinking you are a certain person, then having your entire identity changed in a matter of seconds.
I loved the simple writing style. The book was very easy and fast to get through and it was quite easy to connect with Janie. The novel was also highly addicting and I found myself unable to put it down. I just had to know what happened to Janie when she was a child and who was responsible for her kidnapping!
However, I felt like a lot of parts were either dragged out a little or didn't connect as well as they could have. The story line was still brilliant however.
Also, I have a little problem with the character Janie. Actually, with all the characters. They were a bit flat and not well executed. The one thing I would have changed was to add more depth into the creation of the characters and maybe make them a bit more human.
In short, it's a great, interesting read that I would recommend to people looking for a quick novel to finish in a day, but it definitely does not make my Must Read list.
