Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Goodreads Synopsis:There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

My Review:
Okay. So there clearly is not much else I can say about this book that hasn't already been said. But, I will put in my own two cents, for all it's worth.
I absolutely loved the character development in this novel. I took in the first half of the story in an audiobook, then finished it up with the print edition and I think that reading this in print really made it more striking. The audiobook actually had the 16 Moons song, which was a great touch, but I still feel like actually reading about the characters made a more personal connection (more on my audiobook / ereader / paper discussion on my Reading blog!)
Anyways, the characters seemed so real to me and I loved the way the story progressed. I grew so attached to Lena - I honestly think she is one of my favorite characters of the last few books I've read. Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl are just such great story tellers and I think they did a great job with this book.
Another amazing element that I loved in the book was the magic. The Book Of Moons and the Lunae Libri were my favorite aspects of the book.
And that ending...
I can't wait to pick up Beautiful Darkness!
